Internet is an amazing product of Today’s world as it provides people a platform to show and express their talents in the form of dance ,crafts ,music,debate etc and the arrival of the Internet has made the connectivity stronger than by the older days.Distances has departed as well as it is quite easy to connect with each other in the world ,the virtual world has made it possible to people to get in touch with each other easily .We use internet for many purposes either in personal or public life that is the form of sending mail ,to online conference and data storaging as well as video calling.Internet has made the life of people much more feasible as it required in the field of research as well as inventions moreover are used by the students while accessing study materials.
It is because of the internet that doing online commerce and trade become easier by offering ,selling ,buying as well as advertising ,online trade has changed the fortune of millions of trader ,as where the business in offline mode become difficult ,people urges or get attracted in the online mode ,it is another social impact of internet on our lives.In the old times,economy used to be limited and isolated .But with the advent of internet world economy and industry has come closer to each other .Due to the internet,many online jobs were created as well as people are changing their life.
This is one of the greatest benefits of internet in today’s world for the society.Artificial intelligence and machine learning has completely changed the scope and future of computer education.It is useful in every walk of life in education ,economy,medical field,trade etc.In the field of health and treatment,the use of internet has completely revolutionized the health and medical field .The new innovation and technologies in identifying and curing disease are remarkable.With the internet and connectivity ,nothing remains the same ,the information can be spreader or transmitted easily using the internet.Moreover with the use of internet it become possible to monitor a place against possible risk it can used to maintain law and order in any place,thus the benefits of internet are innumerable.
Similarly there are various demerits of the internet too,as while using internet to spread information or use various app ,everyone should be aware of maintaining privacy as many coffence takes place in cyber world ,and its very difficult once become prey of the cyber criminals to get rid of it is difficult one.Earlier it was unthinkable to commit crime in online mode ,but now a days ,various forms of cyber crime are increasing .
Online fraud and deception has badly hit our society.As we know e commerce is relatively new phenomenon in developing countries though in the developed countries the fraud take place in e commerce can be prevented by regulation of the laws and implementing them ,but in case of developing countries,are struggling to find ways to prevent from the e commerce and offences relating to e commerce are going on.Still laws like Information Technology Act 2000 and the Information Technology Amendment Act 2008 has been enacted to regulate the electronic records as well to prohibit the cyber crimes ,with the rise of the use of internet ,many low quality materials are sold by giving misleading information about the quality of the product in cyber world.
Various reasons why the internet is not safe are given below:-
Issue relating to privacy – Right to privacy is the basic right of every citizen of the country .As per Art 21of Indian Constitution states No one can be deprived of Right to life and personal liberty unless and until prescribed by law.Under which it includes Right to privacy is the right which in the cyber world is very difficult to manage ,and became quite hard to safeguard privacy .The privacy of people is infringed due to tracing the location of the victims by the stalkers leading to interfering with the personal lives of people.Whoever intentionally captured the private photographs of others without his or her consent and circulate or disseminate it outside shall be punished with imprisonment for a term under the provisions of Information Technology Amendment Act 2008.
Propaganda by the use internet – internet is used by the many group,organization to target the common people for achieving their goals.The propaganda is the deadliest means of the danger of today’s world.
Online blackmailing – Blackmailers use internet as a tool to harras people and they misuse the information of the victims and sometime present it in wrong way to trap us.Youngsters are the target of the online blackmailer and harassment.Though in the developed countries,they have rules and regulations to controll the conduct of blackmailed and prevent people by implementing the laws but still due to improper implementation of law the people in developing countries are suffering .
Online gaming -After the arrival of online gaming ,many children and youngsters should taking part in outdoor games and sports like football,cricket ,volley ball and many others and make them engage in their times in the online gaming ,which make them addicted toward these games.It effects the normal growth of the children as the they are lacking the benefits of not participating the outdoor and other indoor games and suffer from many heath issues I like obesity.Many times ,it happens like that they got trapped in many dangerous online games like Blue whale ,the target of these are not to entertain them to let to commit unlawful act .
Hacking of data and communication by the hackers -Hacking is an unauthorized access to the social media of an individual of collecting data or information relating to person which is an offence punishable by law .The hackers used to hack the account and receive personal information which they misuses them for achieving their goal.After hacking the victims couldn’t able to use the account .It is one of the dangerous threat to internet.
Cyber offences like identity theft,online gambling,online stalking,cyber pornography child pornography , cyber attacks and terrorism
Pornography -The transmitting and publishing in electronic form any lascivious material or appeals to the prurient interest or if it has effect that it deprave and corrupt persons likely having regard to all relevant circumstances ,read,see hear the matter contained therein shall be punished under the provisions of Information Technology Act 2008.Pornography is a heinous crime,unfortunately ,large number of population are addicted to it .Watching porn has severe effect on the individual ,mentally as well as physically,diverts the interest of the individual on the work.Moreover ,today’s world every one should be aware regarding sharing any private information or pictures to others as the offender may disclose the picture by transmitting it by using the internet,which hampers the reputation of the victims.Sometimes it happens like the offenders collects the picture of individual morph it in a illicit or obscene content and circulate in various social media platforms.With the use of internet ,this type of menace is spreading out quickly.
Online cheating and fraud –Online cheating and fraud are the common cyber offences in today’s world,through internet ,people are lured into and in return,fraud is done to them by various way in business.
Defamation -By use of the internet as a potential tool ,people used to defame others which includes intentionslly injuring the reputation of others knowing that whatever he is disseminating is false information which he knows as false is punishable under Indian Penal Code 1860 as well as Information Technology Act 2000 and Information Technology Amendment Act 2008,internet and the social media are the great sensation.In the internet its become easy to make someone good person or to make him as bad person by disseminating misleading information through social media like WhatsApp,Facebook ,Email etc.
The attack on national security and sovereignty -The misuse of internet has created a lot of hurdles in maintaining security of the nation’s.Internet is considered as double edged sword .They misuse internet to fulfill their plans.
Cyber terrorism – The terrorists are misusing the the internet as a tool to target and make plans for executing in harming the nation
This article highlights both the pros and cons of Internet usage. It emphasises how Internet is repeatedly misused by cybercriminals.
Everything that was invented by humans has both advantages as well as disadvantages . But as far internet is considered , we can say it was used for boon and also as a bane .The thing is, no one is ever completely secure online, and while you don’t think you’ve been hacked, there’s an increasingly likely chance some of your personal information has been or will be compromised by a data breach the more services or sites you use or visit online.Even though apps loom larger in most people’s daily online interactions than traditional websites do, that does not mean that the basic Internet safety rules have changed. Hackers are still on the lookout for personal information they can use to access your credit card and bank information.Unsafe surfing can also lead to other threats—from embarrassing personal comments or images that, once online, are nearly impossible to erase, to getting mixed up with people you’d rather have had nothing to do with.
