Student abused during online class
– Mohd Aslam
On Tuesday (23 June 2020) at Kolkata some hackers intruded in an online class of 6th standard of Kolkata girls’ school and started making obscene noises, threatening and abusing the students. Shocked, students tell the teacher and parents about this activity, then hackers stopped speaking and started to write sexual messages in the chat-box. From then the online class is suspended. The initial investigation found that there were two logins in the name of one student, which maybe is pointing to the leaking id’s and password which results in the intrusion. School and Police are investigating the case actively.
The Analysis
The key takeaway from this event is to educate yourself, your family, friends, child and relatives about the privacy of the credentials whether it is online or offline. In this case, the good thing is that the student acted immediately and reported the case to the authorities who are involved directly or indirectly. In my view, this whole situation is to be considered under the case of the cyberbullying and threatening. The whole idea behind writing this article is to spread awareness among the people about the recent problems which the students and education-related personnel are facing.
It is important to teach the children about the damages of online abuse and it is necessary as the internet is becoming the part of daily life, especially at this time when the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the whole world. It is important; to not only teach your children about the dangers but also teach them how to handle the situation and report the case to someone who can deal with it. These types of events cannot be ignored as they have a really bad impact on the metal as well as the physical health of the children, these types of cases are to be dealt with utmost priority. These are the relatively new problems which are being faced by the students, and the educational staff should take care of these such issues and provide a secure learning platform for the students.
These types of activities which are happening with the students online, who are in the budding age can lead to severe harm. It is not only our duty to guide them but to educate them enough so they can take a step forward to save others too.
The Law
This kind of obscene behaviour is covered under law so be very practical and report the problem to the authorities as soon as possible. These are some of the following law which accused can take advantage of:
• Section 66E of Information Technology Act – Deals with the breach privacy.
• Section 507 Indian Penal Code – Deals with the criminal harassment.
