Boris Johnson is the next elected Prime Minister of Britain. Takes over Theresa May. Gives a harsh loss to Jeremy Hunt in midst of Brexit.
Speaking outside Downing Street, he said the UK would leave the EU on 31 October “no ifs, no buts”, adding: “The buck stops with me.”
“The doubters, the doomsters, the gloomsters” who said it could not be done were “wrong”, the new PM added.
First day in office: Johnson has delivered a defiant. An upbeat first speech on the steps of Downing Street. After becoming the UK’s prime minister.
The end of May: Theresa May earlier resigned in person to the Queen at Buckingham Palace following her last appearance in Parliament as PM.
Cabinet reshuffle expected: Johnson will sweep out much of May’s Cabinet and make his own appointments in the coming days.
Brexit battles loom: The biggest task for Johnson will be to take Britain out of the European Union, but his hardline strategy has plenty of critics.
Theresa May also supported the new Prime minster’s ideology to support Brexit. She quoted earlier that “the new Prime Minister will have our backing”.
Cabinet ministers also in truffle. As lots of resignations have been handed over.
The newly elected Prime Minister will take the Queen’s permission to formalize the government. As it has been a traditional ceremony to take blessings of the monarch. This will happen on 24th of July.
