Introduction to Madhya Pradesh:
Madhya Pradesh meaning “central province “is a state in central India. It’s capital is Bhopal, and the largest city is Indore also known as “mini Bombay” due to the IT sectors and industrialization. The other larger cities include Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain etc. It is the second largest Indian state by area and the fifth largest state by population. The larger the city ,the more chances of crime.
According to the national crimes record bureau, 2016 records Madhya Pradesh ranked 24 out of total states in cyber-crimes. Under cyber-crimes IT ACT computer related offences (section 66 and section 66 B to E) the total number of crimes reported in state is 152 in which Uttar Pradesh topped the list. On the other hand, IPC cases involving computer as a medium/ target the state reported total of 55 cyber crimes under IPC which is quite decent as compared to other states. The list was topped by Maharashtra. According to cyber crimes motive 2016 in insult to modesty of women the percentage is 18% and the other share belongs to other crimes like illegal gain through computer, revenge, sexual exploitation etc.
In police disposal of cyber crime cases the total cases reported for investigation were 569 from which the cases pending investigation from previous year were 311 and the cases reported during the year were 258. From which the total number of cases disposed by the police are 352 and the cases in which the charge sheets were submitted were 206. Looking at the above data it can be concluded that in cyber crimes the state has quite decent data as compared to other states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra etc. But the state still needs to go a long way as there are still crimes happening. According to 2018 reports Madhya Pradesh has been ranked vulnerable to cyber attack which is dangerous.
The police are making every possible effort to reduce the cyber crime rate in the state. Not only police but the individuals, NGOs, welfare societies everyone are trying their best to reduce the crimes. Like new helpline numbers are set up to report the cyber-crimes, the new police stations are been set up etc. from the general public’s side, awareness is being created. All the preventive measures, curative measures are being taken care of. As these crimes are ever evolving thus the measures should also be evolving.
