Tripura’s 8-year-old Arshiya Das clinched the only gold medal for India at the Asian School Chess Championship in Uzbekistan this year. After bagging her first international gold, the chess prodigy said that her eyes are now set on the 2020 World Chess Championship to be held in Georgia. (The Indian Express).
Her coach and FIDE master Prasenjit Dutta, who runs a chess academy in Delhi, said that Arshiya earlier took part in the Asian Youth Chess Championship in 2018 in Thailand and qualified for the World Chess Championship, 2018 in Spain but failed to get any medal.
Arshiya, a student of Class 3 in the Holy Cross School in Agartala, is currently the national champion in the Under-9 chess category.
She is the first member of her family to take up Chess. Her father Purnendu Das is an employee with the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and mother Arnisha Nath Das is a homemaker.

Arshiya adds that she aspires to become the female grandmaster as Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand remains her inspiration.
