The rains, the hopes and expectation all fell short of what ensued in India vs New Zealand’s match. New Zealand played in a more superior manner but India were definitely not in good form as compared to the day-before’s match.
It was a semi final match and India were the favourites of the tournament playing consistently with a great match winning record. But, rains obstructed the match and it was to be continued the next day.
The Indian team had more than 1.3 bn people’s trust on their shoulders on both the days. But, sadly despite Jadeja’s and Dhoni’s knock in an attempt to turn the match to India’s favour, New Zealand won by 18 runs.
While the Blue Men could’ve definitely played better, M S Dhoni too could’ve received a fitter send off amidst rumours of his retirement.
MS Dhoni received criticism for his performance in this world cup and many speculated it to be his last stint in the World Cup, wearing the Blue Jersey.
Fans were as teary eyed as Dhoni when he got run out, but, no one can ever forget Mahi’s performance in the finals of WC 2011.
Yes, things could’ve ended perfectly if certain things fell into their place. But, it is important to realise that in the Gentleman’s Game, or in any sport, the team which plays better wins the day’s match. Today too, like most people agree upon, New Zealand was the better team.
Virat Kohli sent out an emotional message to all the fans while apologising as well as thanking them for all the love and support.
Firstly I want to thank all our fans who came in huge numbers to support the team. You made it a memorable tournament for all of us & we definitely felt the love showered upon the team. We are all disappointed & share the same emotions as you. We gave everything we had.Jai hind?? pic.twitter.com/rFwxiUdqK5

If Dhoni retires post World Cup 2019 , the cricketing world will lose a person considered one of the greatest Indian cricketer and fans will be most heartbroken.
"It is always better to go when people are asking why rather than when"
Dhoni will make his decision when he think it is right. Until then, let us all remember the good times and cherish the wickets taken, yorkers bowled, six hit outside the stadium, athletic attempts in catching and fielding, and ofcourse the cover drives.
History shall always remember the wins but will also forgive the losses.
It was very disappointing to see INDIA out .but they did play well through out.
It was very disappointing to see INDIA out .but they did play well through out..we will certainly forgive them.hope to win next world cup?
It was a mistake by team by sending Dhoni so late. He would have had some cooling effects on other players to settle and result would have been different.
Any how it is over and going for next fixtures.
Super Neha
India played very well through out. But in Semi- Final they start loosing wickets.. that was the big disappointing … hope to see soon in next world cup.
