India is experiencing irregularity in rains. Many states are battling water scarcity but on the other side few states are suffering with too much rains. Mumbai is one such state which is battling heavy rains. A 30-year-old man was electrocuted. Three others, including a woman, were killed and two were injured after being struck by lightning. They were taking a shelter from heavy rain in a shed in Solapur. At least 137 spots in Mumbai are blocked due to overnight downpours.Due to low visibility and heavy rains, flights from Chhatrapai Shivaji Airport was delayed. It has become extremely dangerous to move out of the house in such extreme conditions. Roads are completely waterlogged, and many schools have declared a precautionary holiday.
On the other hand, Odisha is experiencing deficit in rainfall. Registered deficit of 31.5 per cent and an average rainfall of 148.3mm against the LTA (Long Term Average) of 216.5mm has now become a concern. In this situation when climate change has become an increasingly disturbing concern in many countries, this difference proves that India is not very far away from its catastrophic future. Chennai is already tackling water scarcity. Soon, many states will face the same.
Another disturbing concern is the waterlogging of roads. Roads are destroyed due to heavy rains. Government should try to make roads last longer. Also, they should opt for roads which do not ruin in circumstances like rain. This is easier said than done. Issues like these should be properly addressed by the government.
