An interstate cyber gang was recently arrested by Gwalior Cyber Police. The gang was accused for committing frauds with people using UPI and gift card services. The gang accomplished the mission by contacting different people with a motive to enjoy the benefits of the schemes from their firm. They entrap them to get agreed to some facts and figures. Based upon the agreement, gang offers to give the advance. And the whole story mugged up here; gang asks to provide the advance using UPI link as a medium. As soon as other party clicks on the link provided and fills in their UPI Id and password; clicks on the Pay option, that amount of money gets transacted to the requester’s account.cyber crime.
Subsequently, the stolen money was used to buy the gift cards due to which the banks and even the Police wasn’t able to capture them. The gift cards were uploaded on E- Wallet and later on brought in use. Shri Purushottam Sharma, Special Police Director General cyber cell and additional police director general of the cyber cell, Shri Rajesh Gupta called an emergency and guided the authorities about how to take a prompt action. Under their guidance, the master mind of the whole scenario was soon captured.
Later on investigations revealed that the master mind of the gang got trained for the same in Dubai. It was an interstate gang who entrap the innocents by getting their contact details from JustDial page. Shri Shudir Aggarwal, Police Superintendent, State Cyber Police , Gwalior threw light upon the case. He told the media that in the month of April, complainant Shivshankar Kuvshah registered a complaint against fraud via UPI link in their cyber organization. The complainant told that he got a call to make an album whose advance he will be funded via UPI link. Shivshankar agreed to the deal and got entrapped in the bait. So as soon as he logged in using UPI Id and password and clicked the link, he got a text about money withdrawal from his account.
The whole situation was taken into deep consideration while Police Constables Pushpinder and Radharaman were instructed and guided for the same. The gang was booked for Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 66C and 66D of the IT Act. The ones who guided the mission to success are:
